Relaxing Eye Routine

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, our eyes often bear the brunt of our screen time and endless to-do lists. The constant strain, late-night Netflix binges, and hours spent in front of computers can take a toll on our eyes.

Fortunately, there's a natural and incredibly effective way to soothe and rejuvenate your eyes: acupressure.

What Is Acupressure?

When it comes to eye health, acupressure can work wonders by targeting specific acupressure points around the eyes.

The Benefits Of Eye Acupressure

  • Relief from Eye Strain and Tension: The acupressure points around the eyes are particularly effective in relieving eye strain caused by prolonged screen time or reading. By gently massaging these points, you can reduce tension and discomfort, helping your eyes feel relaxed and refreshed.

  • Improved Blood Circulation: Acupressure stimulates blood circulation in the eye area. This increased blood flow nourishes the eye tissues, promoting better overall eye health. Improved circulation can also alleviate dry eyes, which is a common concern in our digitally-driven world.

  • Reduced Puffiness and Dark Circles: Many of us battle with puffy eyes and dark circles, especially after a sleepless night. Acupressure can help. By targeting specific points, you can encourage lymphatic drainage and reduce fluid retention, leading to a brighter, less puffy under-eye area.

  • Stress Reduction: Stress doesn't just affect our minds; it can manifest physically, often in the form of eye strain and tension headaches. Acupressure's calming effect can help reduce stress and anxiety, relieving the physical symptoms associated with these conditions.

  • Enhanced Vision: While acupressure isn't a substitute for medical treatment, it can complement your eye care routine. Stimulating certain acupressure points may help improve vision by promoting better eye muscle function and reducing eye fatigue.

Eye Acupressure Routine

Performing acupressure on your eyes is simple and safe. Here's a basic routine to get you started and that will leave you feeling refreshed and revitalized.

1. Find a quiet and comfortable place to sit or lie down.

2. Take a few deep breaths to relax your mind and body.

3. Use your index or middle finger to apply gentle pressure to each acupressure point around the eyes.

4. Hold each point for about 20 seconds, all the while maintaining slow, deep breathing.

5. Follow the sequence in the above image by moving from the inner corner of your eye towards the outer edges and then beneath your eyes.

Remember, consistency is key with acupressure. Incorporate this practice into your self-care routine for best results.

My Favourite Bonus Tips!

  • Blink More: Make a conscious effort to blink more frequently, especially when you're spending extended periods in front of screens. It's a simple way to keep your eyes moisturized and reduce strain.

  • The 20-20-20 Rule: Throughout the day, give your eyes a break by practicing the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, shift your focus to something at least 20 feet (approximately 6 meters) away for a relaxing 20 seconds. This mini-break is a game-changer for eye health and relaxation.
